Secret Santa 2024 – Announcement

EDIT December 28th, 2024 – please redownload the asset pack, an issue was found in the pinetree.prm file, where it didn’t retain the mapping upon export. Sorry for the inconvenience!

December 22nd, 2024 – Hello, Re-Volters!

First of all, a quick PSA: yes, this event should’ve started earlier – I had everything ready both in my head and as far as assets go, but a pharingitis got the best of me last week :(

This will unfortunately make the voting window for Track of the year 2024 overlap with this contest.

For this year’s festive celebrations, we thought of doing things a little bit differently – the Re-Volt World team is going to be the creators’ Secret Santa! We’ve compiled a bundle of assets for you all to unleash your Christmassy creativity with – more on that in the individual event category rules. Comments on this page are also open, so please let us know what you think of this format! :)

What is this?

Content creators can attend the contest by submitting a creation according to the contest themes.

After the deadline, there will be a public voting to determine the winners of each category.

In addition, you can gain Kudos by attending the Secret Santa 2024 event!

  • Attending: You get 25 for attending a category.
  • Podium: Getting on the podium in a category will give you 50 .
  • Winning: Winning a category is worth 100 !
Theme and categories

The Secret Santa 2024 event features three creation categories:

  • Track: build your very own track using the racing line map bundled in the asset archive.
  • Car: integrate the Christmas tree 3D model from the asset archive into your car entry.
  • Skin: choose one of the palettes from the asset archive to make a skin for any car you like.

Rules

General rules:

  • Deadline for submission is January 12th, 20 UTC.
  • Every creator can submit a maximum of ONE creation per category (and it is not mandatory to participate in all of them).
  • Collaborations are allowed. Please provide the name(s) of the author(s) you collaborated with.
  • Used resources (if any) must be stated in an attached readme, unless their author(s) is (are) okay with free distribution.
  • Please don’t upload your entries to Re-Volt World or any other websites before the submission deadline.
  • It is not mandatory to keep your entries secret before the deadline.

Track rules:

  • Lego/Lego Extreme tracks are allowed, although you may need to take some creative liberties when recreating the shape from the map.
  • The map should be treated as a racing line, not a track layout – which means, it’s not strictly required to have an actual “ribbon of asphalt” with that shape, as long as the cars themselves follow it as a path.
  • The track may run clockwise or counter-clockwise, and you can freely position the startgrid to your liking.
  • The theming of the track is 100% free – it isn’t necessary to make it look winter-y or Christmassy, but you can do it if you wish.
  • Track scaling is also free, as well as elevation changes throughout the lap.
  • Tip: if you’re making an Extreme track, importing the map as a Background Image for the Top viewport in Blender (or equivalent software) can be helpful.

Car rules:

  • Any type of car is allowed. This category is basically free-for-all, as long as the Christmas tree 3D model is used in the car at least once. A basic png layer where the main colours of the tree are mapped is also provided – you may remap it to your liking if it gets in the way of your car’s mapping.
  • You can add decorations or change the scaling of the model before applying it to the car.
  • It is not strictly necessary to reparam your creation, if it is a remodel.

Skin rules:

  • You may make a skin for any car you like. Please state which car the skin is for, and pack it in its proper folder.
  • Only one palette (= 4 colours) can be used in your skin. This also applies to decals, not just to the base coat of the car – pick wisely!
  • Adding black, white or any shade of grey/silver to the skin is allowed.
  • Details (lights, windows etc.) aren’t required to follow the palette.
Submit your entry

Submit your entry by using the upload function down below.

  • Only visible for logged in users!
  • You can upload zip, rar or 7z files.
  • The maximum file size is 50 MB.
  • You can use the upload function as often as you wish! Upload updated versions of your creations anytime. We will have a look at the uploads manually, and just consider the latest version if there are more.

Submissions are closed. Thanks to everyone who participated! The voting page will be available in the following days.

Technically speaking it’s not even mandatory for your track entry to be playable in reverse :) if you so desire or if the track ambience requires it (due to elevation changes for example) you may add cuts in the reversed version, as there’s no explicit rule for a feature that isn’t even required to have in the first place. Good luck with your track entry!

  2. I have a question for tracks, does the reverse version also have to follow the racing line? I would like to cut a short part of the track in it.

  3. I apologise for the inconvenience (and for double-commenting :P) – and I thank TTDriver for mentioning this. It looks like the pinetree.prm asset didn’t retain its mapping upon exporting – please re-download the asset pack, as it is now fixed.

There is no explicit rule against it (I guess it could count as “decorating” the tree though :P), so if you see it fit for your creation go ahead! Looking forward to your submission now that you mention it :)

  5. i have question for car creation.
a basic png layer where the main colours of the tree are mapped is provided, remapping it is allowed.
however, are we allowed to recolor or retexture the tree asset? or are we required to keep the provided green colors?

  6. Kiwi always out there with the most interesting holiday destinations I see :) enjoy your Chilean time!

Also a small heads-up for everyone using Edge, Chrome or any other Chromium-based browser: it seems like the link to download the assets gets flagged by the browser itself.

Copying the link to a new tab or using another browser (tested working on Firefox and Opera) seems to be a functioning workaround – I’ll try to keep you all posted if I find out why this happens. Thanks for the patience!

  7. Awesome idea! I would have loved to join this contest, but sadly it is overlapping with my trip to Chile, which start at December 27th this year. So good luck and fun to everyone, can’t wait to see the outcomes after my return from South America.
