Medieval: Redux is a (surprise!) medieval-themed track that takes the cars along a ditch, through a marketplace, residential area and alleys of a town from that era. It's based on one of my first tracks, Medieval (released in 2017). The race lines are almost perfectly identical, but Medieval: Redux greatly improves the visuals from it's predecessor and introduces a lot of features absent from the original, including background music, custom loading screen, custom materials and camera nodes. This is my first released track where I used almost exclusively Blender to create the lighting.

  1. Nice and clean track. What’s about this raceflow, that’s really excellent here? It’s the variety of passages I guess. No nonsense, always enough room, that’s what I like about it. Has some mean passages. Good challenge on Super-Pro cars.

I’d say the performance could be improved on the open part, as it lags slightly when having the marketplace in sight from above. Maybe some unnecessary details could be saved there.

  2. It’s a great remake! The racing line stays the same, but that’s fine as it was already good, and the atmosphere is greatly improved. I think the lighting and added sounds add especially much feel. The modelling of the track is gorgeous, but most of it will not be appreciated while playing races, and I think this is unfortunate. I hope Instant enjoyed making 3D details in the houses and such, because they are almost always outside the field of view during races, so the track does not benefit much from it. Of course it also doesn’t take away from it at all.
Custom surface types were also added with this remake, which make the track a lot more fun to play. The sounds are nice too, although like others I am not yet sold on the sound that’s made on the stone surface type. Maybe it also sounds strange because as of yet it is not possible to let a surface make a sound from driving over it; it can only make a sound while skidding. Then again, if this sound would play all the time it would not at all be pleasant, I imagine. :P In any case, the surface types feel great.
The textures were improved from the original too. The original were already very high resolution, but not too easy on the eyes, I thought. There is no such issue here.
As I said the racing line was unchanged from the original, but I did notice one improvement to it: at a certain U-turn, you used to be able to drive straight on, which would cause you to reposition, as that’s not where you’re supposed to go. In Medieval: Redux there’s a fence there so it’s clear you should turn around!
Overall, this is an amazing overhaul, but I can’t help but feel that the modelling is more than was necessary for this track. I’m glad it got released, at least, as at some points it seemed like Instant was too perfectionist while modelling this track. But hey, that’s not my problem, we got a great-looking track out of it. ;) Well worth checking out! And maybe explore it in MAKEITGOOD or with a flying vehicle. :)

  3. This got one of my favourite tracks over time. The thing I like most about it (and this is not meant in a negative way): It’s short. I think Re-Volt lack in short custom tracks. I really like the flow of it. It has a lot of different parts, with lot of up- and downs and some interesting corners. I don’t have to say much about the graphics I think – it’s easily one of the best tracks graphically. The details are outstanding. The lighting is awesome. I really hope you will make a new track one day.
