[UPDATE v2.0] Fixed parameters, hull and carbox, added paintkit.

This is my car that I decided to create for the Re-Volt World Birthday Contest 2022! It’s a rally car inspired by the legendary Italian classic cars of the 60s and 70s; especially, it’s a mix between the Fiat Dino and the Lancia Fulvia Coupé. The name "Stellalpina" (which means “Alpinestar”) comes from the flower that grows in the mountainous areas at high altitudes. As per the contest rules, I created a livery that refers to a national flag, and of course I chose the Italian flag! Also, there is a paintkit sub-folder in the main directory to make your custom skin. The car is front-wheel drive, but it often tends to oversteer, so be careful while steering.
Thanks to burner94 for helping me improve the parameters.

  1. Stellalpina is almost a classic grand tourer in RC form. From the first time you see it, rallying influences are clear and frankly, in line with everything you’ll experience driving it. Modelling is just impeccable, to the point of being maybe just a bit too clean and detailed to be a Re-Volt vehicle. And then the livery completes it with Italian stripes arranged in a way that they resemble Lancia’s Alitalia liveries. From a visual standpoint it’s perfection.

Once you get into a race, first thing you notice is that the car is a bit smaller than you might be used to. And, while I understand 60s style proportions are entirely different from what we’re used to today, it does seem it could be just a tad wider – to make it fit into the grid better. But that’s not a big problem, because as soon as you start the race, the fun begins. Acceleration is not exactly stellar, and that’s where the “almost” part in “almost a GT” comes in. But the rest blows that issue out of the water, because once you get going, everything about Stellalpina feels proper.

She tops up at 58kph, 59 if you’re lucky, and acceleration curve is just good enough to make good use of all of it on most tracks. The ride is pretty smooth, and suspension works just beautifully – like a retro rally car, with lots of body roll and wheel travel. That, coupled with FWD drivetrain, makes the car more stable than author actually suggests, even while turning. In high speed corners there’s acceptable amount of signature FWD understeer, and depending on surface and exit speed it may or may not turn into a slight oversteer. Yes, she’ll bite if push her too far, but that will be on you.

What I feel on the fance about is the in-air stability. Even here it’s well-made, with front half diving sharply because of all the weight from the engine, and that’s nice. But high CoM and a narrow base make the car vulnerable to overturning if you happen to land unevenly. It goes through bumps just fine, but watch out while making big leaps.

Overall, knowing that this review is long as hell, I’ll just say that – I pity the fact that she didn’t drive like she does when she was submitted for the contest. Had she been like that from the start, I think she would’ve been my absolute favourite car in the lot.

    Pros:
    – Visuals are another level of beautiful
    – Nice top speed making up for somewhat mediocre acceleration
    – Much more stable than suggested, providing just the right amount of oversteer to make it a fun challenge
    – Very comfortable, exciting and fairly versatile ride

    Cons:
    – Prone to overturning when landing unevenly or thrown off balance
    – Body proportions could be a bit better compared to vanilla cars
    – FWD understeer may make it more nimble than you’d like it to in certain situations
