Another car from Gran Turismo 1 is here, meet the 1996-1997 Mazda Demio GL-X. (The car was also sold as the Ford Festiva in USA)
Mazda released this car to combat the negative press coverage they are receiving but once the Demio hit the market, it was a success, especially in Japan. The car is considered to be a supermini/subcompact car in the B-Segment, but it also foreshadowed some cars that came to live such as the Fiat Idea, Renault Modus or even the Opel Meriva.
The name Demio comes from Latin "meus" to show possesion or so, but many roman languages adopted the word "Mio".
The Demio was sold with a multitude of engine options, but it is equipped with either a 1.3L B3-ME inline 4 or a 1.5 L B5E/B5-ME inline 4 with an output around 80-90 BHP. This continued to be sold until 2007 when the second generation of it took off.
The Demio may not be much, but it has charm and character. I love the Demio, especially this version and it's second generation. It's acceleration may be bleh, but it's fun to use, but be careful, because it may or may not have a bit of bodyroll, so don't hit too much curbs or so. Enjoy!
