In spite of what I’ve said towards Kiwi regarding his unsporting conduct in the comment section of Chris Johannsen’s Desolate District 2, I still believe he is one of the best track creators of this particular era of the game. And I feel this track, along with similar ones, are deserving of praise, especially for a Lego. However, in light of what I have discovered, I have chosen not to rate this track.

   I am withholding my rating for a reason. And I think the moderators need to take a look and decide for themselves what the best course of action is.

   This track is very disturbing on the surface, but when you look into the files, I think a line has been crossed, multiple times as a matter of fact. And I think this is a very serious matter that needs to be investigated.

   The file in question is “papapyhrgasd.bmp”, which is used during the section you travel through what I presume to be a brain stem, with borderline-subliminal disturbing imagery as you pass through it. I had a bad feeling in my gut the first time I played this track, but wrote it off until I delved into the files and discovered the aforementioned image.

   It is a 4×4 grid of images that is cycled through and displayed translucently as you pass through the brain. Some of these are relatively harmless, but there are three images out of five I think should not have been used.

   Two of the five images are pornographic, but these don’t concern me too much, as they are clearly in the interest of artistic licence and you can argue for their inclusion. One is from a performative art piece (first image in the second row), whereas the other (third row, second image) is a freeze frame depicting rape taken from the 1994 Hindi movie Bandit Queen.

   However, several of the other images kiwi has used in this track as textures contain actual depictions of dead people.

   Yes, you read that correctly.

   Kiwi does not reference this in the readme, description or any comments concerning this track. And I feel other Re-Volt players need to be made aware of this.

   The third photo from the top is a photo of troops walking past dead soldiers in World War I.

   The first image on the third row is of bodies at a Concentration Camp during World War II.

   The worst image I would say is the third image of the third row. This is a photo of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide, and is in the fact the main image used in its respective Wikipedia article.

   In addition to these, the fourth image on the third row is a cropped version of injured children who survived a bombing of Aleppo in 2016.

   I do not think anyone should be using imagery from actual tragic events, even when making a track that is intended to be disturbing in nature. Nintendo got in a fair bit of trouble for using photos of a massacre in one of their games, and I think the same should apply to mods for a 25 year old game which children might still play. Especially when you consciously chose not to disclose this choice.

   I believe that in the name of taste and common decency, this track should be taken down, withheld to prevent any further downloads, and re-released with the offensive imagery removed. It is of course up to the moderators to decide what the best thing to do is, because obviously I wouldn’t want this track to necessarily disappear, just be amended.

2. Hmm, I wonder if I could make it like Déréalisation, but instead of using Toys in the hood 1, I might make it using Toys in the hood 2…

3. When this was released, it was a lot more bare, and it seemed unbeatable. However, an update got released a day after, making it more like Schizophrenia.
   This track utilizes a lot of the same strategies as Schizophrenia, being an edit of it. The main new effects are a really weird music track, corrupted text, and force fields making it hard to remain in control of your car.
   Overall, I think Schizophrenia is the more interesting track of the duo. But with this pair of tracks Kiwi has shown once more that Re-Volt is an art medium, not an art style.
